Karolyn Cheney began her teaching journey in 1994 after receiving a Bachelor’s in Science from George Fox College and her teaching certification from the University of Washington. She started her career at a small private school in Kent, Washington, then taught at Mountlake Terrace High School for nine years.
After taking a break from teaching to raise her three pre-school aged children, she returned to teaching, joining the Skagit Academy Community in 2009. The school was an excellent fit for her and her young family. Not only did she get to teach, but her children attended the school as well!
Mrs. Cheney enjoys teaching a variety of science and math classes at SA. She has been able to teach students in all grade levels from K-12, in exciting hands-on science classes. After gaining her mathematics endorsement, she now also teaches some high school math.
On the more personal side, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, kayaking, and spending time at the local beaches. She has four teenagers, two cats, one dog, and a lizard. “Skagit Academy is a great place to work! The staff are excellent to work alongside, the students are fantastic, and the parents are engaged and want the best for their children. Wow! It has been a worthwhile journey so far; I am looking forward to more adventures!”
