Julie Semrau started her teaching career at Sedro-Woolley High School in 1990 after graduating from Central Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a broad area science endorsement and a teaching certificate. She taught science at SWHS, State Street HS and served the district as Science Curriculum Coordinator. Julie added a Masters in Education in 2007 and a Health and PE endorsement in 2018.

Julie joined Skagit Academy in 2008, when a dear friend by the name of Karolyn Cheney encouraged her to apply for a science teaching position. Julie greatly enjoys the fluid dynamic of teaching at SA. The students are phenomenal, the parents are tremendous partners in the education process and her colleagues are the most genuine, caring people she has worked with in her 28 years of teaching.

In her spare time, Julie helps her husband, John, run their engineering business. She enjoys hiking, skiing, backpacking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, gardening and spending time with extended family and friends. Julie has 2 adult children and 1 teenager at home. The house is completed with 2 dogs, 14 hens and 5 horses. Oh, and she says, “science rocks”!
